Pachinko Card Reader Emulator System
Setup Mode
Once you have installed your Card Reader Emulator, there are many options that allow you to modify the configuration of the unit. Changing these options is done in the Setup Mode.
For Rev.1 Card Reader Emulators, the setup mode can only be accessed by placing the supplied jumper link on pins 3 & 4 of the expansion connector as indicated on the label next to the expansion connector. When the Card Reader Emulator is next powered on, the setup mode will be entered. To exit the setup mode simply power the machine off again, all modified settings will be automatically saved.
For Rev.2 or Rev.3 Card Reader Emulators, there are two ways of accessing the setup mode. The first is to power off the pachinko machine, and hold down both the 'Ball Loan' and 'Return' buttons while powering the machine back up. Keep the buttons pressed until the copyright and software revision information begins to scroll across the display. To exit the setup mode simply power the machine off again, all modified settings will be automatically saved.
The second way to enter the setup mode on Rev.2 or Rev.3 Card Reader Emulators is with a dedicated Setup Mode Smartcard. When this smartcard is inserted into the card reader slot, the card reader emulator will automatically enter setup mode. To exit the setup mode, remove the smartcard and the card reader emulator will save the modified settings and reset back into normal play mode.
Preventing Access to the Setup Mode. (Rev.2/Rev.3 Only)
If you do not wish others to be able to access the setup mode and modify the settings, this can be prevented in one of two ways.
If a smartcard reader has not been installed you can place a jumper link between pins 2 & 4 of the expansion connector (as shown in the diagram below). This will prevent the front panel buttons being used to enter the setup mode while the machine is powering up. This jumper link is not normally supplied with the card reader emulator, but can be purchased separately from our online store. Alternatively any suitable 0.1" pitch jumper link can be used.

If the setup mode has been accessed using a Setup Mode Smartcard, it can be locked to that card. The card reader emulator will store the unique serial number of the Setup Mode Smartcard that was inserted into the reader when it was locked, and will only be able to enter setup mode by using that card. You will not be able to use any other Setup Mode Smartcard, or the front panel buttons to enter setup mode while it is locked. Ensure you keep the Setup Mode Smartcard safe. If it is lost, then the lock can only be removed by either obtaining a duplicate setup mode smartcard, or by returning the card reader emulator to be reprogrammed.
On Rev.1 Card Reader Emulators, if the jumper link is placed in the 'Setup Disable' position as indicated in the diagram above, the card reader emulator will be held in a 'Reset' state, and will not power up. Remove the jumper link to allow the card reader emulator to power up normally.
Using the setup mode.
When the setup mode is initially entered a message will be scrolled across the credit display of the pachinko machine. This message includes the revision number of the installed software, and the build date of the units firmware (in DD-MM-YYYY format). Once the message has been displayed the setup mode will be entered.
During setup mode the left most digit in the credit display will indicate the current setting being modified, and the right hand digit(s) will indicate the current value of that setting. The setup mode can be navigated by pressing the Ball Loan and Return buttons. The Ball Loan button will store the value for the current setting and move on to the next setting, and the Return button will increase the value stored in the current setting by one. When the maximum setting value is reached, a further press will return to a value of zero.

Operation Mode
The Operation Modes change how the card reader emulator operates and are explained on the Operation page.
Count Divisor (Rev.1 only)
When a Rev.1 Card Reader Emulator is set to operation mode or
(Ball Counter modes), this setting allows the counter to either be incremented every 25 balls, or every 100 balls.

This setting is not required on Rev.2 or Rev.3 Card Reader Emulators, as the Payout Multiplier setting can be used to allow payouts of 100 balls to be made.
Card/Coin Value
The 'Hundreds', 'Tens' and 'Units' settings are used to set the initial card/coin values used by the Card Reader Emulator. For example if you wanted the card/coin value to be set to 125 credits, the Hundreds setting would be set to , the Tens setting to
, and the Units setting to
.
Payout Multiplier (Rev.2/Rev.3 only)
Using the default setting of the Card Reader Emulator will make payouts of 25 balls for one credit. This setting enables larger payouts to be made for a single credit.
The setting value indicates how many additional payouts of 25 balls are made when the ball loan button is pressed. For example, to pay out 100 balls for one credit a setting of is used (25 ball default payout + 3 additional 25 ball payouts).
Payout Count (Rev.2/Rev.3 only)
With the default setting of the Card Reader Emulator will make a single payout of the number of balls determined by the Payout Multiplier, and deduct a single credit. This setting enables larger payouts to be made and additional credits to be deducted for the larger payouts.
The setting value indicates how many additional payouts and credits are to be deducted when the ball loan button is pressed. For example, a setting of will make two payouts and deduct two credits.
From firmware version r2.1 onwards, an auto-payout setting is available by selecting 'C-A'. With this enabled as soon as credit is added, balls are immediately paid out until all credit has been used.
Return Button Delay (Rev.2/Rev.3 only)
This setting determines the amount of time the Return button has to be pressed before the credit value is altered. Each count of the setting value is equivalent to approximately half a second, and the range of adjustment is from 0.5s () to 4.0s (
).
External Switch De-Bounce
The External switch de-bounce setting is explained on the interfacing page, in the section of the page showing the connections to an external switch.
Brightness Setting for Credit Display
The Brightness setting can be used to adjust the intensity of the LED credit
display, and the 'Ball Loan Available' LED. A low setting (ie. )
is the minimum brightness, with the maximum brightness being
.
Caution should be used before setting the brightness setting to a value that is higher than needed to clearly read the display. Higher brightness values cause the Card Reader Emulator unit to run hotter, and electronic equipment tends to be more reliable and have a longer life at lower temperatures.
Ball Loan Available LED Setting (Rev.2/Rev.3 only)
This setting controls how the Ball Loan Available LED is lit during play.

Shooter Handle Disable (Rev.2/Rev.3 only)
This setting controls whether the Shooter Handle is disabled when there is no smartcard in the card reader slot. This setting has no effect if the card reader emulator is not connected to a smartcard reader.

Please note that when the shooter handle is disabled, the Ball Loan Available LED will be switched off, regardless of the Ball Loan Available LED setting.
Zero Display Setting (Rev.2/Rev.3 only)
This setting controls what is shown on the credit display when there is no credit available.

Please note that with setting the brightness of the Ball Loan Available LED will also fade down at the same time as the credit display, and the LED will remain off until more credit is added.
No Card Display Setting (Rev.2/Rev.3 only)
This setting controls what is shown on the credit display when there is no smartcard present in the card reader slot.

Display Flash Setting (Rev.2/Rev.3 only)
This setting controls the look of the credit display while a payout is in progress.

Setup Mode Lock (Rev.2/Rev.3 only)
This setting is only available when the setup mode is accessed using a setup mode smartcard, and will enable the setup mode to be locked to that particular setup mode smartcard.
